25 CCC Activists Granted Bail After Spending Almost 2 Weeks In Custody

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Legislators Amos Chibaya, Costa Machingauta and 23 other CCC members were granted bail after spending almost two weeks in custody.

The 25, together with a 17-year-old minor were arrested on January 14, 2023 in Budiriro while attending an internal party meeting.

They are accused of gathering with an intent to incite public violence.

Harare Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda granted them ZWL 30 000 bail each excluding the two senior citizens an 81-year-old and a 72-year-old who were released on free bail.

In her ruling Dzuda said, the two witnesses that were led by the State could not agree and the accused persons were arrested at a private property attending an internal meeting.

Dzuda also added that the accused persons were not flight risk.

She further said, the witness are police officers so limiting the space of interference, giving bail to the senior citizens will not jeopardise the proper administration of justice.

In the interest of justice, the accused are admitted to bail, they should pay ZWL 30 000 each, report once a week at the nearest police station at the CID law and order and the two senior citizens an 81-year-old and a 72-year-old are remanded on free bail.

They were remanded to the February 3, 2023 together with the minor who was also released on free bail last week.
