The Citizens Coalition for Change Champion in Chief Advocate Nelson Chamisa has lamented the continued crackdown on opposition figures by the state institutions .
The opposition leader said that the government should stop harrassing opposition activists as the continued violation of fundamental human rights enshrined in the constitution was unacceptable.
”The last kicks…This abuse of power and violation of the law is unacceptable as riot police arrest our Change Champions, Hon Chibaya MP & 24 others at Budiriro MP’s house. We will defeat all these terror tactics. Oppression is temporary and falling. Zimbabwe shall soon be free!,”he said.
Police over the weekend arrested the party’s national organising secretary Amos Chibaya and other CCC leaders in Budiriro on charges of convening an unsanctioned meeting.
The police is said to have distruped the meeting by firing teargas canisters into the residence of lawmaker Costa Machingauta in Budiriro.
The CCC activists will be appearing in court this morning for their bail hearing.
The party has continued to protest the arrests of the leaders as it argues that it did not violate any laws because internal meetings are allowed by the constitution.
”Armed police have beaten up the wife and daughter of Machingauta. They’ve put up a roadblock on the road that leads to his home … We want elections not war.Public order rules do not apply to private meetings,” Said the party’s national spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere.
