The Coalition Citizens for Change has called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to publicly issue a statement condemning the political violence which took place in Murehwa last week.
The party’s interim treasurer-general, David Coltart said that the President’s silence on the issue was defeaning adding that the leader should publicly issue a statement denouncing the violence.
“When is the person who claims to be President of Zimbabwe or his acting deputy going to condemn political violence as the Catholic Bishops Conference has done? Leadership of a country demands that leaders be outspoken & proactive in upholding fundamental Constitutional values,”he said.
CCC members were brutally assaulted by suspected ZANUPF thugs for convening a meeting, in Ward 4 of Bhunu Village, Murehwa North .
The matter has drawn wide condemnation from the civil society and church leaders with the Catholic Bishops Conference condemning political violence in Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile the President is yet to issue a statement denouncing the violence with ZANU PF denying responsibility for the attacks on the Mrehwa opposition supporters.
