The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of a suspect who was part of the gang that was involved in the politically motivated violence that rocked Murehwa last week.
Violence reared its ugly head in Murehwa last week after suspected ZANU PF youths brutally attacked elderly Citizens Coalition for Change supporters who had gathered for a meeting.
Police National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the Murehwa incident.
”The ZRP confirmed the arrest of one of the suspects,Never Chimutashu (67) who is expected to appear in court in due course,”Ass Comm Nyathi said.
The victims of the violence have since been identified as Chipo Mutizwa (37),Beauty Chiko (52), Nyaradzai Chitauro(52),Sekuru Dongo (79) and his wife Mbuya Dongo as well as Baba and Mai Seremano whom have since been treated of the injuries sustained in the barbaric attack.
A video of the brutal assault on the opposition supporters went viral on social media sparking nationwide condemnation with the opposition piling up pressure on the police to investigate matter.
Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Republic Police has said that investigations are currently under way to bring the other suspects to justice.
