Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has ended support for old smartphones from Apple, Samsung, Huawei, LG and others from beginning of this month.
The list includes 49 phones that run on outdated operating systems. According to WhatsApp’s official website, the app supports Android devices running OS version 4.1 and newer. While the supported iOS version is iOS 12 and newer. Outdated devices have already started getting cut off from the app.
The messaging service last culled a large number of devices back in February 2022 and, according to its support page, the affected devices will no longer be supported, which means any apps that are currently installed might develop issues that won’t be fixed. People with unsupported versions of Android or iOS will also have a lot of trouble installing a version of the app on their devices, with the Play Store and simply saying their devices are not supported.
