The United States of America has slapped Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr with sanctions financial sanctions ahead as the U.S-African Summit in Washington.
The US Treasury Department said that sanctions were imposed to on Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr along with three other Zimbabweans as well as two firms for their roles in undermining democracy and facilitating high-level graft.
Emmerson Jr as well as Kuda Tagwirei’s wife, Sandra Mpunga; Nqobile Magwizi, and Obey Chimuka, along with the firms Fossil Agro and Fossil Contracting were all placed on sanctions list for their close connections with energy and business tycoon Kuda Tagwirei.
In a statement,the US Secretary of the Treasury,Mr Brian Nelson said that the sanctions were not targetting the country but was specifically targetting individuals who were partaking in misgovernance of the country.
“We urge the Zimbabwean government to take meaningful steps towards creating a peaceful, prosperous, and politically vibrant Zimbabwe, and to address the root causes of many of Zimbabwe’s ills: corrupt elites and their abuse of the country’s institutions for their personal benefit,” Under Secretary of the Treasury Brian Nelson said.
Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr. is said to have been h in “charge of the president’s business interests related to Sakunda Holdings CEO Kuda Tagwirei.
The sanctions freeze any assets the targets may have in U.S. jurisdictions and bar Americans from doing business with them.
