Minister of Women Affairs Launches Urban Transformation Programme

Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Sithembiso Nyoni on Monday launched the First Lady’s  Auxilia Mnangagwa’s Urban Transformation Programme in Harare.

Speaking during the official launch of the UTP Nyoni highlighted that the programme will focus on the training towards poverty eradication.

“The Mandate of my Ministry through the Community Development Department is to formulate and Implement community development policies and programmes through community mobilization, livelihood projects and skills training towards poverty eradication.

“Under the Cooperatives Unit which falls under my Ministry, we thrive to develop policies and programmes aimed at supporting a well-functioning and effective cooperative sector.

“In line with the First Lady of Zimbabwe ‘s programme and initiatives, the Ministry is going to mobilise communities to take part and rally behind the life changing transformation programme. There is power in coordinated community effort and as a result the Nation should harness all available human resource and technical skills for its success and sustainable development activities, “ she said.

She added that the programme will be conducted under the supervision of experts in the respective fields of specialization.

“As a Ministry, we are going to facilitate skills training to the communities by engaging experts in the respective fields of specialization. As a Nation, we have wealth of experience and knowledge , particularly in agriculture through the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisher, Water and Rural Development as highlighted by the respective Minister .

“The Ministry also offers training in business entrepreneurship which will ensure smooth running of registered small business entities and cooperative societies. We provide training to established community groups to grow and formalize them into registered cooperatives which sustain livelihoods.

“I am delighted, Your Excellency, The First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe that this initiative among other has come at a time such as this to improve livelihoods of our communities which is in line with the Government thrust of living no one and no place behind,” said Nyoni.
