CCC Blames Gvt For the Skyrocketing of Data Prices

Citizens Coalition for Change has blamed the Zanu PF led government for the continuous skyrocketing of data prices in the country.

Commenting on its social media platform CCC highlighted that government is also responsible for the highest hyperinflation rate and also the rise of basic commodities leading to extreme poverty.

“The rising cost of data is a symptom of broken economy. The Govt’s failed policies have led to Zimbabwe having the highest hyperinflation rate in the world, 49% extreme poverty & unaffordable basic services. Register to vote for an economy that works for the many & not the few,” said CCC.

Zimbabwe’s Service Providers Telcel Zimbabwe, Econet and Netone have reviewed their data, SMS, voice bundles on the 01 November 2022 after another review in September 2022.

After, the 1st of November review, service providers again reviewed their data , SMS and voice bundles on the 16th of November 2022.

The cheapest data prices according to each service provider are as follows Econet 8GB cost $ZWL 14.780.00, Telecel 6 GB cost $ZWL 12.000.00 and Netone 10 GB cost $ZWL 16.850.00.

This is the 6th time service providers reviewed their Data, SMS and Voice Bundle this year, service providers first reviewed their prices in January 2022, May, July, 01 September, 01 November and 16 November been the latest.

Two reviews in one month shocked many citizens leading to an uproar on different social media platforms, as many people are no longer able to purchase the cheapest data.

Despite mixed reactions to the data price review the telecommunications sector was granted a phased tariff adjustment by the telecoms regulator Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) of 61% in July 2022, and a further 61% with effect from 1 September 2022, and a further 61% with effect from 1 November 2022.
