Mliswa Blames Systematic Problems For The Continuous Leakage of Exam Papers

The constant leaks of Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Examination papers is a symptom of systematic problems Norton Legislator Temba Mliswa has said.

This statement came in after ZIMSEC officials highlighted that they are going to amend the ZIMSEC Act in order to introduce stiffer penalties for cheats.

Mliswa emphasised that more needs to be done concerning the issue of leaking of Examination papers rather than introducing stiff penalties to students.

“Certainly, more needs to be done but reducing the issue into student punishments misses the mark. The constant leaks are a symptom of systematics problems and a reflection of the macro-economic environment. It’s a big issue which can not be resolved by increasing punishments.”

He added that, “The move to amend the ZIMSEC Act so that punishment is much more severe misses the points that the problem is not the students. Students are at the tail-end of the rot and it simply manifests there not necessarily that they are the problem. It’s a cause for concern,” he said.

ZIMSEC spokesperson Nichollette Dlamini told the Sunday Mail that they are going to amend the ZIMSEC Act in order to introduce stiff penalties to perpetrators.

“ZIMSEC Act will be amended so that we have harsh penalties for illegal access to exam papers, aside from just cancelling the exams.

“this include additional punitive measures for example, having the particular learner’s examination result annulled.

Those involved in malpractices will have all their results cancelled and the ZIMSEC amendment act will have harsh sentence for the culprits, apart from cancellation of exams.

Dlamini also highlighted that investigations are still going and ZIMSEC will announce the course of actions to be taken once the investigations are done.
