Patrice Machaya, a 17 year old A-level pupil at Errymaple International in Zvishavane has developed an infrared sensor meant to provide security technology.
The Zvishavane teenage pupil said the purpose of the gadget is, “To deter would-be criminals from breaking into houses.”
Patrice project was among the exhibitions showcased during the 2022 Midlands Show that was held at Gweru Show Grounds in July.
The 17 year old Machaya designed this efficient and affordable passive infrared sensor and majors in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Chemistry, stating he intends to pursue a career in software engineering.
Machaya has successfully put theory into practice, combining basic electronics and the coding from computer science to come out with the programmed security system.
Used for security, a passive infrared sensor is an electronic sensor that measures infrared light radiating from objects in its field of view. They are most often used in PIR (Passive Infra-Red)-based motion detectors. This PIR detection is a technology used in security systems to detect movement or intruders by recognising light emitted from nearby objects. The PIR sensors are commonly used in security alarms and automatic lighting applications.
