Suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President Felton Kamambo has been exposed in an alleged fraud of United States Dollars (US$100 000).
According to the report circulating on social media ZIFA Board members shared US$ 100 000 which was supposed to cater for ZIFA expenses but was used for their personal gains.
Suspended ZIFA president inconvenience with his Vice president Philemon Machana and other Executive Committee Members Farai Jere, Bryton Malandule, Barbra Chikosi, and Sugar Chagonda distributed the amount to their personal accounts as allowance.
The report reads, “An amount of US$194 000 which was supposed to be paid to referees, coaches transport, referees’ expenses had not been paid at the time of the investigations. The Funds are no longer in ZIFA’s Bank accounts as they were used for other purposes.
“No explanation was given to us as why the beneficiaries were not paid and how the funds were used.
“The amount allocated under budget line -item administration was paid to ZIFA Board Members as follows, Felton Kamambo 20 000, Philemon Machana 18 000, Farai Jere 15 500, Bryton Malanduke 15 500, Barbra Chikosi 15 500, and Sugar Chadonga 15 500 a total of US$100 000 all together.
The document further said, “We held a meeting with one of the directors, Ms Barbra Chikosi at 3 Baines Avenue on the 15 September 2022 and she explained that her understanding was that the US$15 500 that she was paid was Board allowances which were due to her.”
“We were however not availed information to show how and for what purposes the amounts had accrued.”
However, Norton Legislator Temba Mliswa last week advised Kamambo to step down as ZIFA president considering the fraud allegations he is facing.
He also said ZIFA Board must be led by women because women are vibrant in exposing corruption.
“Instead of us dealing with these criminals who want to keep stealing money, they must face their day in court. The current President is in court. Why does he still want to remain the ZIFA President?.
“The Vice Chairperson of ZIFA must be a woman, the portfolio committee must recommend that in the ZIFA Constitution, at any point in time, there must be gender parity; without gender parity we are not going anywhere – that is the reason why they do not want women close to ZIFA because women would be able to expose their stealing. Let them recommend for us to see women being part of ZIFA and let us see women’s football growing because we have that,” he said.
