Norton Legislator Themba Mliswa has said that the government is trying to subvert the anti- corruption fight by setting up a tribunal to investigate the ZACC Commissioner John Makamure’s conduct.

Mliswa said that Makamure is being persecuted for doing his job and that this was a witch hunt meant to stifle the fight against corruption.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday sworn in a tribunal to investigate Makamure’s conduct and Mliswa said that the move was meant to protect Justice Mayor Wadyajena.

“The creation of a tribunal to supposedly investigate ZACC
Commissioner John Makamure is a brazen subversion of the anti-corruption fight and specifically an act to protect Wadyajena.

Makamure is an upstanding technocrat who is now suffering for merely doing his job,”he said.

Commissioner Makamure is facing allegations of gross misconduct.

He is accused of asking for political funding from one Sung Lee in exchange for protection and will be investigated by a tribunal consisting of Retired Justice Maphios Cheda and Justice Secretary Virginia Mabhiza .

However Mliswa has defended the persecution of Commissioner Makamure adding that Makamure should resign as the government was showing no sincerity by protecting corrupt individuals.

“There is no sincerity in fighting corruption when the champions are being targeted. If I were Makamure I would simply resign. It’s a corrupt state. He didn’t need this job but joined in the belief the Second Republic was sincere,”he added.

The ZANU PF MP for Gokwe Nembudziya Major Wadyajena was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission on charges of money laundering and fraud involving USD$5 Million.

Interestingly,he was released on bail and is still representing the party despite criminal charges that he is facing.
