Minister of Public Service Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima has officially opened the 40th Annual Congress and Annual General Meeting of the Employers’ Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ), held at Kingdom Hotel in Victoria Falls.
In a speech read on his behalf by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service Labour and Social Welfare, Simon Masanga, Hon Prof Mavima addressed delegates and experts from the business sector, International Labour Organisation (ILO) and leaders of organised labour in Victoria Falls, highlighting the need for cohesion under the theme ‘Social Dialogue for New Paradigm Shift for Economic and Social Transformation”, adding that , it comes at a time “when our nation is at the cusp of achieving macro-economic stability and entering the sustainable growth mode.”
Professor Mavima alluded that this platform affords the social partners a genuine opportunity for employers and workers at large to exchange ideas that can facilitate the growth of the economy, through greater investment, productivity and innovation.
Mavima said, “We underline that our principal role as Government will remain that of creating an enabling policy and legal environment for the social partners to rightfully contribute to national development.
“I would like to commend the organisers for bringing an array of experts to lead deliberations on important topics including entrepreneurship and innovation, productivity, occupational health and safety as well social protection among others.
Professor Mavima explained government’s critical role in fixing an enabling environment to exchange ideas.
“As Government we welcome the opportunity to share ideas with the Business fraternity on the best strategies in fostering macroeconomic stability to set the economy firmly on a sustainable growth in line with National Development Strategy (NDS1) and Vison 2030.”
