A 22-year-old man from Rusape has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of repeatedly raping his 9-year-old niece.
The sexual abuse began in January 2025 on an unknown date and continued in March 2025.
According to the court, the offender would send the victim to a tuckshop to buy biscuits.
Upon her return, he would call her into his bedroom, order her to remove her underwear, and then proceed to rape her before giving her the biscuits.
The horrific acts came to light on March 21, 2025, when the victim’s aunt noticed she was not walking properly.
The victim was immediately taken to a local clinic, then referred to the District Hospital. Due to suspicions of sexual abuse, medical staff at the hospital, including nurses, and her aunt were informed.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest and eventual conviction.
