Zimbabwe Air Force Fighter Jet Crashes, Pilot Dies

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces family is in mourning following the crash of a Zimbabwe Air Force (AFZ) F-7 fighter aircraft yesterday resulting in the death of the pilot, Squadron Leader (retired) Ritswanetsi Vuyo Ncube.

 

The aircraft crashed in the Wazheri general area along the Gweru-Mvuma Road as a result of what authorities described as a routine sortie.

 

Squadron Leader Ncube, a pilot who had rejoined the Air Force of Zimbabwe from retirement due to his passion for flying and dedication to his nation, was a highly experienced aviator and one of the initial pilots trained to fly fighter jets at Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base.

 

Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General PV Sibanda, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. 

 

The Zimbabwe Defence Force have learnt, with heavy hearts, of the passing on of a proficient and highly experienced pilot, Squadron Leader Ncube after an aircraft accident.

“Right now, our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased pilot. I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased for this sad loss.”

Investigations are currently underway to establish the cause of the accident.
