An unprecedented security breach has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s military establishment, as Brigadier-General Fidelis Mhonda, the commanding officer of the elite Presidential Guard Brigade, discovered his office at Dzivarasekwa Barracks thoroughly ransacked.
The intrusion, which left no trace of the perpetrators, has sparked intense speculation about the motives and capabilities of those involved, given the highly secured nature of the barracks.
Mhonda, a figure at the center of controversy and wielding considerable influence, found his office stripped bare of sensitive materials, including files, documents, family photographs, historic war memorabilia, service accolades, and personal ornaments.
The precision and thoroughness of the attack and the complete absence of forensic evidence, has raised alarming questions about internal vulnerabilities or the extraordinary abilities of external actors.
The incident is particularly startling due to the location of Mhonda’s office deep within Dzivarasekwa Barracks, a facility secured by multiple boom gates designed to prevent unauthorized entry.
This has raised questions about how intruders managed to bypass such stringent security measures.
Brigadier-General Mhonda has long been a subject of public debate and scrutiny as he has previously faced allegations of covertly protecting high-profile figures, including Zvigananda, KT, and WC, and reports suggest he has managed armed presidential guard units as if they were a private security enterprise, leading to whispers of a privatized militia under his command.
These claims were further fueled by videos like “Generals for Sale,” in which Mhonda is accused of allegedly receiving US$25,000 monthly from Zvigananda.
