The Hwange Local Board has issued a notice demanding an annual tariff payment of US$80.50 for the operation of a snooker table, inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).
The notice warns that failure to make the payment by Monday, May 30, 2025, will result in the Board prohibiting the continued operation of the snooker table(s).
The communication, signed by N. Mdlalose, the Town Secretary, states that the payment is required in accordance with Hwange Local Board’s by-laws and Sections 269 to 272 of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15).
“Please be advised that failure to make this payment by Monday, 30 May 2025, will leave Council with no option but to prohibit the continued operation of the snooker table(s).
“We trust that you will attend to this matter promptly. Your cooperation is anticipated and sincerely appreciated.”
The notice was dispatched from the Hwange Local Board offices located at 4 Sandalwood Crescent, Baobab Hill, Hwange.
Operators of snooker tables in Hwange are now faced with a tight deadline to comply with the Board’s demands or risk the closure of their operations.
The directive highlights the Local Board’s enforcement of municipal by-laws to generate revenue from various business activities within its jurisdiction.
