The Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) party has issued a strong statement today, decrying what it termed the begging bowls approach to international relations and demanding reparations instead of aid for the African continent.
This follows Africa Day celebrations today.

In a statement released today, LEAD President Linda Tsungirirai Masarira has condemned the continued reliance on Western powers, accusing some African leaders of sacrificing our dignity for crumbs by seeking validation from those responsible for historical subjugation.
“Let the world hear this: Africa is not rising; Africa has risen. The era of divide and rule is crumbling. The time for the self-determination of African people and every person of African descent is unequivocally NOW.” Masarira said in her statement.
She emphasized the need for self-determination and Pan-African unity, rejecting what she called the colonial wound of artificial borders established at the Berlin Conference.
“We condemn, without reservation, those who continue to parade across the globe with begging bowls.” Masarira stated, asserting that the global village is a deceptive narrative when Africa faces perennial debt, poverty, and underdevelopment.
She characterized this situation not as a village, but as a meticulously crafted economic prison.
LEAD saluted African leaders who have dared to defy the status quo and embraced an independent course, free from external validation.
Masarira has also urged Africans to cast out any leader who seeks external approval over internal progress and to reject those who thrive on division.
She called on Africans to take charge of their communities and nations.
“To the citizens of Africa your destiny is in your hands. Take charge of your communities, your nations and your continents. Build the future where every African thrives, united and unbowed. The time for true liberation is upon us.” Masarira concluded.
