The Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission has arrested a prominent official with Mikando Housing Development Trust, Edmond Nzomba, on charges of extortion and fraud.
This follows a joint operation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
The arrest originate from allegations made by Martha Mutamburi.
According to a ZRP/ZACC press statement released today, Nzomba, also identified as a member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and an anti-corruption official, allegedly offered to assist a complainant in a housing stands repossession case.
He is accused of demanding an initial payment of USD 5,000.00, of which USD 1,000.00 was paid.
The statement reveals that earlier this year, Nzomba requested additional funds from the complainant.
This led to a joint sting operation conducted by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the Zimbabwe Republic Police, culminating in Nzomba’s arrest after he allegedly received an additional USD 200.00 from the complainant.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission have assured that the law will take decisive action against any criminal elements who extort or defraud the public while falsely claiming to be members or officials of the two institutions, and urges the public to report all acts of corruption.
