The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has released its latest electricity tariffs for May 2025, revealing a stepped pricing structure where the cost per unit increases with higher consumption.
Domestic users will be billed in ZiG, while exporters and specific businesses will continue to be billed in foreign currency.
The new tariff bands and their corresponding prices per unit are as follows:
–First 50 Units: 2.1455 ZiG per unit (approximately US$0.08), totaling 113.72 ZiG
-51-100 Units: 2.4137 ZiG per unit (approximately US$0.09), totaling 241.65 ZiG for 100 units
-101-200 Units: 4.2911 ZiG per unit (approximately US$0.16), totaling 696.51 ZiG for 200 units
-201-300 Units: 6.1684 ZiG per unit (approximately US$0.23), totaling 1,350.36 ZiG for 300 units
-301-400 Units: 6.7048 ZiG per unit (approximately US$0.25), totaling 2,061.07 ZiG for 400 units
-401 and above Units: 6.9730 ZiG per unit (approximately US$0.26)
These prices include a mandatory 6% Rural Electrification Levy.
Consumers can utilize online ZESA calculators available on platforms like Magetsi and Zimpricecheck to estimate their electricity costs based on their meter number and desired purchase amount.
