Pardon Sibanda (53), a truck driver, has been sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court to pay a fine of US$300 for possessing unspecified medicine intended for sale.

The conviction follows an incident on April 27, 2025, at approximately 1300 hours, when officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) were conducting an anti-smuggling operation along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway, about 110 kilometers from Masvingo.

During the operation, the ZRP officers stopped a truck driven by Sibanda, who is employed by Avecs Transport, a South African company based in Durban.

Upon searching the vehicle, which was transporting six new DAD Toyota Hilux GD6 vehicles destined for Zambia, the authorities discovered and seized a substantial quantity of undocumented medication.

This included 400 x 100ml bottles of Broncleer cough syrup and 60 x 100ml bottles of Astra pain cough syrup, all concealed within the truck’s confines.

The seized unspecified medicines had an estimated street value of US$1,500.00. Sibanda was immediately arrested as he could not provide any legal documentation or permit authorizing him to possess or trade in such medicines.
