Mbare Magistrate Tatenda Mukurunge today sentenced popular musician Gift Hombarume Chillmaster, popularly known as Chillmaster to 420 hours of community service for culpable homicide following a fatal accident involving a pedestrian.
The sentence comes after Hombarume was found guilty of causing the death due to negligent driving and driving without a licence.
In addition to the community service, the “Horror” hitmaker received a US$200 fine, or a four-month prison sentence in default, for driving without a valid driver’s license, a separate charge stemming from the same incident.
Magistrate Mukurunge initially handed down a 24-month prison sentence for the culpable homicide charge. However, 12 months of this sentence were suspended for five years on the condition of good behavior.
The remaining 12 months were then suspended on the condition that Hombarume completes 420 hours of community service at Stoneridge Primary School.
Lucia Charumbira, the family spokesperson for the deceased, testified in court that the family had chosen to forgive the musician, informing the courts that the deceased had been experiencing stress at the time of the tragic accident.
