Mainway Meadows Residents Picket Against Churches on Railway Land

0

Residents of Mainway Meadows, Phase One, have petitioned the District Council Officer in Harare’s Waterfalls area, opposing the granting of temporary permits and leases to churches operating along the reserved Harare to Chitungwiza railway line.

The residents are concerned that the churches’ operations, which include loud noise disturbances throughout the week and late into the night, are disrupting their peace and violating city council bylaws. They claim that the open space is too close to residential houses and that they were not consulted about the applications.

The residents have reported numerous incidents to the police and city council, citing the unbearable noise levels affecting homes as far as 300 meters away. They argue that the unsanctioned activities are not only disturbing the peace but also have devastating effects on the community.

The residents are urging the City of Harare to reject the applications and prioritize their right to peaceful living. The outcome of this petition will determine whether the churches will be allowed to continue operating in the area or if the residents’ concerns will take precedence.
