A 31-year-old man from Dzivarasekwa, Tinashe Kaseva, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after impersonating his brother to serve community service on his behalf.

The court heard that in March 2025, Kaseva presented himself at the Dzivarasekwa Police Station claiming to be his brother, Wilbert Kaseva, who had been ordered by the court to complete 210 hours of community service for a separate offense.

Tinashe Kaseva even used Wilbert’s identification documents to deceive a police officer into allowing him to undertake the community service.
However, the deception was uncovered in April when police investigating a fraud case involving Wilbert Kaseva confronted Tinashe.

Upon questioning, Tinashe confessed that he was not Wilbert and that he was serving the sentence as a favor to his brother.
The impersonation led to Tinashe Kaseva’s arrest, and he will now serve real jail time for his actions.
