The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched a collaborative road safety awareness campaign to educate the public about crucial pedestrian safety rules and enforce regulations.
According to Lucy Kuwandira Mapfumo, Media and Corporate Communications Officer at TSCZ, pedestrians are encouraged to be vigilant and extra cautious as they are the most vulnerable road users. “We bemoan the high prevalence of earphones and cellphone use while using the road.
It appears that a number of pedestrians have a tendency to walk while wearing headphones and using their phones,” she said. “This is highly risky as it poses them in danger.” The campaign aims to reduce accidents and promote a culture of safety on Zimbabwe’s roads by promoting pedestrian safety, enforcing traffic regulations, and raising awareness about road safety.
By targeting drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, the partnership will promote responsible behavior and adherence to traffic rules through public awareness programs, workshops, and educational materials.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police will also increase enforcement of traffic regulations to deter reckless behavior and ensure compliance.
This collaborative effort is expected to have a significant impact on reducing accidents and promoting responsible behavior among road users, ultimately creating a safer and more responsible driving culture in Zimbabwe.
