0

Buhera is a region commonly affected by drought and limited infrastructure and Member of Parliament (MP) for Buhera North, Hon. Philip Guyo, has taken it upon himself to spearhead the life changing community development projects. In a bid to champion grassroots empowerment. Hon. Guyo has reportedly invested heavily in water access, education, and electricity restoration, in a bid to transform the lives of thousands in Buhera North and West constituencies.

The MP’s development initiatives are said to be deeply rooted in the national agenda of community empowerment, as championed by His Excellency the President Dr E.D Mnangagwa. His guiding principles of leaving no one and no place behind remain an inspiration to all the initiatives being spearheaded team Guyo.

His projects, which are believed to be largely self-sponsored, demonstrate a rare commitment to grassroots development, ensuring that even the most marginalized communities benefit.

One of Hon. Guyo’s most impactful interventions is his borehole drilling program, designed to alleviate water scarcity in Buhera. The region’s arid conditions have long made access to clean water a major challenge, affecting agriculture, health, and daily livelihoods.

The drilling initiative targets a minimum depth of 40 meters, but due to Buhera’s tough terrain, some boreholes have had to go as deep as 70 to 80 meters to strike water. In mountainous areas, the process becomes even more challenging. However, Hon. Guyo maintains that it will not deter the mission

Some areas require more resources, with costs reaching up to $2,000 per borehole, but according to team Guyo, the impact on the community justifies the investment.

The boreholes will bring immense relief to villagers, enabling them to sustain small-scale irrigation projects, livestock farming, and household use. The recent beneficiaries included ward 8,9, 11,12 and 13 which included areas such as Mukondomi, Chiturike, Bhidhiri amongst many.

Beyond water, according to his team, Hon. Guyo has also prioritized the restoration of electricity in areas that have endured prolonged blackouts. Some communities in Buhera had gone without power for 4 to 8 years , potentially affecting businesses, education, and healthcare services.

According to his spokesperson, Hon. Guyo understands that education is the cornerstone of development and has taken a personal interest in supporting underprivileged students. To date, 250 children from primary to secondary level have had their school fees paid through his initiative. Some beneficiaries receive support from Grade 5 through Grade 7, and others are assisted from Form 3 up to Form 4, including examination fees, enabling them to sit for the national exams.

With an estimated USD$300,000 invested in both the school fees and poultry programs, the MP is ensuring that economic empowerment reaches the most vulnerable.

Hon. Guyo’s work in Buhera District has been seen by some as a powerful example of how dedicated leadership can transform communities and lay a foundation for sustainable growth.
