Rufaro Stadium Set for Major Upgrade After Scottland FC Lease Agreement
Story by Tichaona Wangotse
Rufaro Stadium is poised for a significant transformation after Scottland Football Club signed a lease agreement with the City of Harare. The club has pledged to restore the stadium to international standards by the end of the year, in partnership with various stakeholders.
According to Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume, this partnership is a game-changer for Zimbabwean football. “We are confident that the upgrades will not only benefit Scottland FC but also provide a world-class facility for all Premier League teams,” Mafume stated.
Mafume further clarified that despite the upgrades, other teams will continue to use the stadium at the same rates, dispelling concerns about accessibility.
This move is expected to elevate Zimbabwean football, providing a top-notch venue for local and international matches.
The City of Harare had previously planned to renovate Rufaro Stadium with Sakunda Holdings, but the energy company withdrew from the project due to disagreements with the council.
Despite this setback, the city remains committed to upgrading the stadium, with Mayor Mafume assuring that the council will use its own funds to complete the project.
