The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has extended the deadline for the payment of November 2025 examination fees to May 16, 2025, following appeals from parliamentarians.

This was announced by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, during a Senate session at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

“The public examination fees were scheduled to be paid on or before March 28, but we received a request from parliamentarians this afternoon that the date be extended. In consultation with the stakeholders, we have agreed that the date be extended to May 16,” Minister Moyo said.

The extension is expected to benefit thousands of students across Zimbabwe while alleviating financial pressure on parents. ZIMSEC had previously set the examination fees at US$24 per subject for Ordinary Level and US$48 per subject for Advanced Level. However, government subsidies reduce the cost for public, local authority, and mission school students to US$11 and US$22 per subject, respectively.

Payments can be made in United States Dollars (USD), South African Rand (ZAR), or Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), the country’s newly introduced currency. For those opting to pay in ZiG, the interbank exchange rate as of March 10, 2025, for June exams and March 24, 2025, for November exams will determine the final amounts.

The Senate session also addressed other critical issues, including the removal of vendors from central business districts, payment of outstanding benefits to war veterans, and the need for more schools to cater to children with special needs.
