The alert emphasizes the need for heightened hygiene practices across all sectors of the community, including churches, learning institutions, and businesses.
“Following reports of a new cholera outbreak in some parts of the country, Chitungwiza Municipality urges the public, churches, learning institutions, and the business community to practice and adhere to preventative and control measures,” the municipality stated in its recent statement.
Cholera symptoms include watery diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, and severe dehydration, which can lead to death within hours if left untreated.
The Chitungwiza Municipality is calling on residents to prioritize handwashing with soap under running water, especially after using the toilet, handling food, or caring for someone with cholera.
They are also advising the public to treat or boil water before drinking or using it in food preparation, wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly, store water in clean and covered containers, and ensure proper disposal of refuse to prevent fly breeding.
The Municipality has urged residents to report any suspicious symptom to their nearest health facility.
