Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume says the City Council will allocate 40 hectares of land and a sports club to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) for the construction of a stadium and headquarters.

Speaking after a meeting with ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi , Mafume said the council will make one of its sports clubs available for the building of the ZIFA headquarters.

This move is part of a larger partnership between the City of Harare and ZIFA, which also includes the renovation of Rufaro and Gwanzura stadiums.

Furthermore, Mafume emphasized that the council is willing to provide the land and support for development.

“We are also keen to make one of our sports grounds available to ZIFA. We want to develop it – the 40-hectare HighGlen Stadium,” Mafume said.

“We are willing to make that land available to ZIFA in exchange for assistance.

We don’t want them to give us money, but we want them to assist us in developing Rufaro and Gwanzura stadiums,” he added.

Additionally, the city will also make another sports club available for the Mighty Warriors, Zimbabwe’s national women’s football team, and develop that facility.

The new stadium, set to be built on the HighGlen land, is expected to address the current lack of CAF-certified stadiums in Zimbabwe, which has forced national teams and clubs to use stadiums in other countries for international matches.
