Harare Women Celebrate Women’s Day With Self-Love and Empowerment

0

Saturday, March 8th, was a day to remember as women gathered in Harare at the DMAC Lifestyle Center for a picnic event like no other.

The beautiful sun shone brightly, casting a warm glow over the vibrant light hearted gathering, as women came together to celebrate the International Women’s Day.

Resigning from their usually busy and hectic lifestyle to fend their families and loved ones, this time they had to find time just for themselves, in a relaxed environment to exchange notes and get inspiration for yet another brighter day to come.

The even organized by Girls & Women Empowerment Support Network, GWESN dubbed “My Self-Love Era,” was a haven for women to indulge in some much-needed pampering.

Makeup artists and nail technicians were on hand to give the ladies a glamorous makeover, complete with pedicures to soothe their souls. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and chatter as women let their hair down and enjoyed each other’s company.

“We gathered not just to celebrate International Women’s Day, but to remind ourselves that self-love is the foundation of our empowerment. We hope that this event has inspired women to prioritize their well-being, support one another, and rise above the challenges that hold them back.’ said Miriam Kunjanja founder of GWESN.

But the day wasn’t just about relaxation; it was also about empowerment. Women took to the pool for a refreshing swim, while others danced the afternoon away with a high-energy Zumba session. The aim was to encourage women to prioritize their physical and mental well-being, and to celebrate their strength and resilience.

The highlight of the event was a powerful talk by guest speaker Precious Kiwiti, of Precious Hearts Haven who shed light on the critical issue of gender-based violence. With passion and conviction, Precious spoke about the various forms of GBV, from physical and emotional abuse to financial exploitation. She emphasized the importance of recognizing the signs of GBV and knowing how to report them.

But Precious’s message went beyond just 6th awareness; it was a call to action. She urged the women to become “sister keepers,” supporting and uplifting one another in the face of adversity.44G She also stressed the need for women to take control of their financial futures, exploring different streams of income and becoming economically empowered.

As the day drew to a close, the women gathered together, feeling inspired, motivated, and connected. The “My Self-Love Era” picnic event had been a resounding success, providing a safe space for women to celebrate themselves, support one another, and emerge stronger and more empowered than ever before.

As one attendee so eloquently put it, “Today was a reminder that self-love is not selfish; it’s essential. We must prioritize our own well-being, support one another, and rise up against the injustices that threaten our dignity and humanity.”
