Zimbabwe is set to make a strong impact at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa leading the country’s National Day on July 16, 2025. The event is expected to provide significant opportunities for investment, trade, and global collaboration.

Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere confirmed that President Mnangagwa’s attendance will be a key moment for Zimbabwe to engage with both international investors and the Diaspora community. The event will serve as a platform to showcase Zimbabwe’s potential in key sectors, including tourism, mining, agriculture, education, and innovation.

Zimbabwe’s participation at Expo 2025 is centered on the establishment of a Zimbabwe Pavilion, where both public and private institutions will highlight investment opportunities across various sectors. Preparations for the pavilion, including construction, commercial space development, and website creation, are progressing smoothly.

“A 12-member delegation, led by Commissioner-General Mr. Allan Majuru, who is also ZimTrade’s chief executive officer, will represent Zimbabwe at the high-profile event,” Dr. Muswere stated.

Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Prof. Amon Murwira, emphasized the importance of the expo as a unique opportunity for Zimbabwe to engage with the global community. He noted that the event would play a crucial role in advancing trade, investment, and tourism for the country.

“The private sector is already involved in the preparations, and we are focusing on tourism, investment, and trade as key areas for discussion,” Prof. Murwira said. “This event is a chance to promote Zimbabwe’s potential on a global stage and increase our engagement with Japan.”

Mr. Majuru also spoke about the growing potential for trade between Zimbabwe and Japan, particularly in the arts and crafts sector, which has the potential to create livelihood opportunities for many Zimbabweans.

“Although trade volumes with Japan are currently low, we see this as an opportunity to turn the situation around and strengthen cooperation with Japan,” Majuru said.

Zimbabwe’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai saw the country achieve key milestones, including the signing of a US$250 million joint venture agreement to establish a brewery in Masvingo. The Zimbabwean government hopes to replicate this success in Japan and attract more international partnerships.
