OpenAI Has Unveils GPT-4.5 ‘Orion,’ Its Most Advanced AI Yet

0

OpenAI has introduced GPT-4.5, internally called “Orion,” marking its latest breakthrough in artificial intelligence. The new model enhances writing, expands world knowledge, and refines conversational abilities, making interactions feel more natural and insightful.

GPT-4.5 is designed as a transitional model, bridging traditional AI systems with next-generation reasoning capabilities. According to OpenAI, it is over ten times more computationally efficient than its predecessor, GPT-4, resulting in faster and more reliable responses. Additionally, the model significantly reduces misinformation, with hallucination rates dropping from nearly 60% in GPT-4o to 37%.

Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, described GPT-4.5 as the first AI model that truly feels like having a conversation with a thoughtful person. “There are moments where I feel like I’m receiving genuinely good advice,” he said.

Currently, GPT-4.5 is available as a research preview. ChatGPT Pro subscribers, who pay $200 per month, will gain immediate access, while ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) and ChatGPT Team users will receive it next week. Developers using OpenAI’s paid API can start utilizing the model today.

Despite its advancements, GPT-4.5 does not support multimodal capabilities like Voice Mode, Video or screen sharing within ChatGPT. Due to its size and computational demands, it is more expensive to operate and is not intended to replace GPT-4o. Hence, OpenAL plans to release GPT-5, which will integrate various technologies, including the o3 reasoning model, aiming to create a more unified and versatile AI system.
