A 26-year-old man , Tawanda Sam from Zvimba has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a 6-year-old girl in Chief Chirau’s area, a Chinhoyi court ruled.
The incident occurred on February 4, 2025, when the man attacked the young girl as she was walking home from school. According to court proceedings, he greeted the minor, tripped her onto an anthill and raped her.
“After the assault, the offender threatened the girl not to report the incident and ran away into a nearby Gumtree plantation. However, the victim later informed her mother, who took her to the police, leading to the man’s arrest and prosecution”, said The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe.
He was convicted after a full trial during which he denied the allegations.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) urged survivors to report abuse and seek justice.
