A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Mutare Magistrates’ Court for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
The man, (name withheld to protect the victim’s identity) was convicted of multiple counts of sexual intercourse with a minor, occurring between August 2024 and February 2025.

According to evidence presented in court, the man and the minor were involved in a “romantic relationship.”
The abuse took place at various locations, including a forest near Mutare Prison Farm and the man’s residence.
The case came to light after the minor’s mother received information from community members. Upon confronting her daughter, the minor disclosed the abuse.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, highlighted the case as a victory in their ongoing efforts to protect children.
The release emphasized the importance of community vigilance and reporting suspected cases of abuse.
