President Launches National Internet Scheme, Warns Against Online Abuse

President Mnangagwa has unveiled a nationwide Presidential Internet Scheme, promising connectivity for even the most remote communities. 

 Speaking at the launch of the Digitruck and Digital Skills Ambassador Programme at State House, the president emphasized the initiative’s potential to foster social cohesion and boost productivity through improved access to essential services like education and healthcare.

The scheme will utilize technologies such as Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver high-speed internet to villages, schools, clinics, community centers, farmers, and entrepreneurs. 

 President Mnangagwa urged citizens to embrace the National Digital Ambassadors’ project and related programs, citing their potential to unlock opportunities in e-governance, education, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.

He cautioned against online misuse, however, vowing to punish those who incite division through the internet.

The president declared the initiatives transformative, designed to propel Zimbabwe into digital prominence and inclusivity, ensuring every community can participate in the global digital economy.

Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Dr. Tatenda Mavetera also participated in the event, which included a tour of a digital lab truck.
