Speaking ahead of the event, MACYDO CEO, Vimbai Butawu, emphasized the importance of education and vocational training in ensuring young people are employable and self-sufficient.
“For Zimbabwe to achieve Vision 2030, we must ensure that young people have access to quality education, vocational training, and entrepreneurship programs. Equipping them with the right skills will not only empower individuals but also contribute to national economic growth,” said Butawu.
MACYDO is actively involved in bridging the skills gap by supporting initiatives that offer mentorship, funding opportunities, and entrepreneurship training, ensuring that young people are not just job seekers but job creators.
Beyond economic empowerment, youth health remains a top priority for MACYDO. The organization is advocating for youth-friendly healthcare services that address key issues such as substance abuse prevention, mental wellness, and sexual and reproductive health.
“We have seen the devastating effects of drug abuse among our youth. At MACYDO, we stand for a zero-tolerance approach to substance abuse and are actively working to promote mental wellness initiatives,” Butawu noted.
With the government’s renewed focus on youth-led businesses, MACYDO has been at the forefront of providing access to funding, mentorship, and policy advocacy for young entrepreneurs. The organization continues to champion innovation, creativity, and financial inclusion, ensuring that young people have the resources they need to launch and scale successful enterprises.
“Creating an enabling environment for start-ups and SMEs is critical to unlocking youth potential. We are committed to working with key stakeholders to develop policies that support young entrepreneurs and drive inclusive economic growth,” Butawu added.
As Zimbabwe marks National Youth Day, MACYDO stands firmly behind the government’s commitment to youth empowerment. By aligning with frontline efforts to achieve Vision 2030, the organization is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Zimbabwe’s young people.
“Our youth are the backbone of this nation. We must continue to create platforms that empower them, invest in their potential, and support their ambitions. The future of Zimbabwe depends on the strength and vision of its young people,” Butawu concluded.
With excitement building for the National Youth Day celebrations in Bulawayo, MACYDO is gearing up to actively participate in the day’s proceedings, engaging young people, stakeholders, and decision-makers to drive forward its mission of youth empowerment and economic transformation.
