The City of Harare has informed Highfields residents not to panic over discolored water from taps, stating that it is not harmful. This comes after Highfields residents received discolored water from taps.
In a press statement, the council said the discolored water is a result of low levels at the reservoirs and the sludge is an accumulation of water chemicals
used in the tanks. “This is not harmful, and we urge residents not to panic,” said the council.
Our engineers have since rectified the problem at Warren Control, and the water will clear once we start pumping water to Highfields, they added. “The system is being flushed, and the reservoir cleaning process will start immediately.”
Meanwhile, residents have expressed their disappointment in the way the council is providing services to them, with some spending days without water. “Kuwadzana and Warren Park have not received water for days; at least give us an update about it,” Trish Chakabvakure said. “You are a thief,” said one of the residents.
The council has been facing challenges in terms of accountability, with corruption rocking officials and failing to deliver good services to residents.
