Zanupf spokeperson Chris Mutsvangwa boasted about Zimbabwe leading the steel business across the continent and aiming to lead at a global scale.
Speaking In a *press* conference held yesterday at the Zanu-PF headquarters Christopher
Mutsvangwa was confident that Zimbabwe is making headways and in the near future will be at the centre of the industry leading the steel chain.
“We are now the champions of steel in Southern Africa”, said Mutsvangwa.
Going further he revealed that the success of the business was a result of the combined efforts of business men and war veterans, including Geza. Without explaining further, he pointed out that the steel business was a bone of contention between him, his colleagues and the late Robert Mugabe.

According to him, the South African car industry is “salivating” at the prospect of getting virgin steel from Zimbabwe. Plans to have what he calls a common tariff regime are already underway. Despite getting their steel from other countries, China still has the cheapest steel in the world. The reason being, they have cheap labour and Zimbabwe is aiming to take overtake China. But can they?
“In terms of input cost to produce steel, no country should be better than Zimbabwe than Zimbabwe”, said Mutsvangwa.
Zimbabwe is inarguably one of the richest countries in the world in terms of mineral wealth. On the main agenda for the new year is the collaboration between Zimbabwe and South Africa, which according to Mutsvangwa, will enable both parties to dictate the price of steel in the global market.
He asserted that Zimbabwe and South Africa will soon enough integrate their two economies using the steel industry.
How will this duo working together benefit the ordinary Zimbabwean? And will the said benefits be open to everyone or only a handful of individuals with the means?
