Commisioner Paul Nyathi says police are barred from providing escorts vehicles for private functions.
In a statement National Commissioner Paul Nyathi has clarified that motorized escorts or state motorcades will only be provided to the Presidium.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to inform the public that it does not provide motorized escorts for private events such as weddings, church gatherings, birthday parties, or other social functions.
“The public is reminded that the law prohibits the use of private motorcades, including those with beacon lights or sirens, for personal or private purposes, he added.
“Anyone found violating the law will be prosecuted accordingly, ” he said.
According to Statutory Instrument 129 of 2015, the use of blue lights or beacons is strictly reserved for authorized Zimbabwe Republic Police vehicles.
Motorists found with unauthorized blue lights on their vehicles will face legal action.
