The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has officially appointed Kalisto Pasuwa as the new head coach of the Malawi men’s national football team. Pasuwa, a Zimbabwean national, has signed a two-year contract with performance-based targets.
FAM President Fleetwood Haiya announced the appointment, stating that Pasuwa’s impressive track record made him an ideal candidate. “We all know what Kalisto Pasuwa has achieved, and it’s undisputed that he’s one of the best coaches in the region,” Haiya said.
Pasuwa’s immediate task will be to lead the team in the African Nations Champions qualifiers. His contract terms include meeting specific targets, such as qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, winning three remaining World Cup qualifying games, and securing the COSAFA Cup of Nations title within two years.
Pasuwa expressed his commitment to the role, emphasizing the importance of teamwork. “As you know, this job is not a one-person task; we need to work together,” he said. “I’m familiar with the culture, and I know what Malawian players need.”
Pasuwa’s appointment follows his departure from Nyasa Big Bullets, a top club in Malawi where he previously served as head coach.
