The pan-African Parliament (PAP) is urging stronger efforts to resolve the ongoing Sudan crisis, including support for Sudanese refugees in South Africa who have been displaced by the conflict.
PAP President Chief Fortune Charumbira emphasized that the Parliament can play a key role in promoting peace across Africa through Parliamentary Diplomacy. He called on the African Union Commission to involve all relevant bodies in efforts to address the crisis
Chief Charumbira is currently leading the PAP Bureau in preparatory meetings for the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (February 12-13, 2025) and the 38th ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government (February 15- 16, 2025).

The 38th African Union Summit will focus on Reparatory Justice and Racial Healing, with the theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”. Elections for senior leadership positions will also take place during the summit.
The Sudan conflict, which erupted in 2023, has led to widespread displacement and humanitarian crises, with thousands of refugees fleeing to neighboring countries, including South Africa. PAP leaders have stressed the need for a united African response to restore stability and assist those affected.
In addition to addressing the Sudan crisis, the upcoming AU meetings will tackle broader issues affecting the continent, such as economic development, security cooperation and regional integration. The PAP continues to advocate for stronger governance and collaborative solutions to Africa’s most pressing challenges.
