Harare Residents Demand Answers on Missing $4.5million

0

Harare residents have expressed their concern over the mysterious disappearance of $4.5 million from the city council’s offices which was not reported by Mayor Jacob Mafume .

The missing funds, originally allocated in 2018 to revive the operations of Harare Quarry, have no traceable records, raising serious corruption concerns.

Mayor Jacob Mafume has come under fire for allegedly failing to report the incident to the police. This lack of transparency has fueled suspicions of a cover-up, with many residents demanding answers about the missing funds

“Mafume surely can’t be alone in this grave train, let all spoons and forks come out of the cupboards! This rot must come to an end and shame on all the corrupt selfish human beings in Council!” one of the resident said.

These people are heartless… very wicked, very very wicked. ‘Sorry’ is just a word, but where’s the justice for the looted sweat of the people?” said Tanaka at copacabana.

The missing $4.5 million issue resurfaced when Mayor Jacob Mafume responded to the commission chaired by retired Judge Justice Maphios Cheda. The commission was appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in May last year to investigate Harare City Council operations amid reports of gross mismanagement and corruption.

In response Mayor Jacob Mafume has denied any involvement in the disappearance of $4.5 million from the Harare City Council, claiming he wasn’t yet elected to the council when the alleged scandal occurred.

According to Mafume, the missing funds were mismanaged by the previous council and administration, which were in office before he took over in 2018.
