Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, and Rural Development, Professor Dr. Obert Jiri, has revealed plans for a Zimbabwe Tobacco Revolution, aiming to leverage value-added exports to bridge the gap between the current $1 billion earnings and a projected $60 billion.

Speaking recently at a field day at Kutsaga farm in Harare Jiri commended the organization for its relentless innovation and commitment to advancing tobacco research and development reiterating its crucial role in shaping the tobacco value chain
“Relentless innovation and a commitment to advancing tobacco research and development are crucial in shaping the tobacco value chain,” said Professor Obert Jiri.
In addition,He unveiled a bold vision to catapult Zimbabwe’s tobacco industry to a staggering $60 billion, a significant leap from the current $1 billion earned by farmers, through strategic value addition and export of finished tobacco products.
“Zimbabwe aims to boost the tobacco industry’s value from $1 billion to $60 billion by focusing on value addition and exporting finished products,” he said.

Professor Dr. Jiri highlighted significant progress in Zimbabwe’s tobacco transformation efforts, citing substantial productivity gains that align with the National Development Strategy 1 and support the country’s ambitious plans to unlock greater value through tobacco processing.
