0

Dzivarasekwa residents are urging city council officials to upgrade sewer infrastructure and construct new roads in highly populated areas, citing the need for improved living conditions.

Speaking in a Master Plan engagement meeting organised by Ward 45, 39, and 40 councillors, residents stressed the urgent need for sewer pipe upgrades in highly populated areas.

“Please councillors, tell the city council to urgently upgrade our sewer infrastructure, particularly in highly populated areas, to improve our living conditions and prevent health hazards,” one of the residents pleaded.”

“We have been living with overflowing sewers and poor roads for far too long. It’s time for the city council to take our concerns seriously and invest in upgrading our infrastructure,” another resident said.

Ward 45 Dzivarasekwa Councillor, Jubiliatuon C.Soko, recently addressed queries responding questions send to him by techmag reporter on WhatsApp regarding the current status of infrastructure development in the area. According to Councillor Soko, despite facing numerous challenges, there were notable improvements in infrastructure development throughout 2024.

“The recent sewer pipe upgrades have brought relief to residents, but more needs to be done, especially in Dzivarasekwa 1 and 3, where population growth has outpaced infrastructure capacity”

Ward 45 has been grappling with the poor state of High Glen Road, which connects to the ward and has been hindering business operations. However, Councillor Jubiliatuon C.Soko has assured that efforts are underway to address the issue.

The Harare City Council has been under investigation by a commission of inquiry established by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, amid allegations of mismanagement of funds, corruption, and lack of accountability and transparency.
