The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has fired its General Manager, Respina Zinyanduko, effective immediately,the decision was announced in a statement released by the NRZ Board of Directors today.
According to the statement, Zinyanduko’s departure is part of a larger effort to realign and restructure the NRZ business. “The Board of Directors of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) wishes to inform members of the public that Ms Respina Zinyanduko has ceased to be the General Manager of NRZ with effect from 31 January 2025. This has been necessitated by the need to realign and restructure the NRZ business in line with the expectation of the shareholders,” reads part of the statement.
The sudden firing of Zinyanduko has raised eyebrows in the industry, with many speculating about the reasons behind the decision. While the NRZ statement cites the need for restructuring, some insiders suggest that there may be more to the story.
Zinyanduko’s tenure as General Manager was marked by efforts to revitalize the NRZ, which has faced significant challenges in recent years. Despite these efforts, the organization continues to struggle with infrastructure issues, funding constraints, and declining passenger numbers.
