Zimbabwe’s tech mogul, Strive Masiyiwa recently sat down with Microsoft Boss, President and Vice Chairman Brad Smith where they shared notes and advised business players on how to stay afloat in the versatile digital age with varying dynamics on reinventing oneself without losing sight of your companies core business.
Masiyiwa revealed this in a thirty minute one on one interview which he had with the Microsoft boss, a company founded by former richest man another tech Fundi, Bill Gates.
Masiyiwa emphasized that As you know, since Microsoft was launched 50 years ago, it’s now one of the largest companies in the world, with a market cap value of about $3,115 trillion. This is more than the GDP of almost all major European countries like the UK and France, as well as all of Continental Africa, and only a bit smaller than India’s GDP.
Microsoft employs 228,000+ people worldwide, including many in Africa.
In A conversation with one of his innovative Partners, Masiyiwa mentioned that Entrepreneurship is a mindset and a #SolutionSeeking journey!
The tech genius who started his journey as Zimbabwe’s Chief Engineer of the then Post and Telecommunications Company (PTC) said, “A few months ago, I had the honor of doing a “fireside chat” with one of the tech world’s most respected business leaders, Brad Smith, the President and Vice Chair of Microsoft.”
“And yet to imagine that Microsoft started in my own lifetime… and was once a scrappy #StartUp, just like the businesses many of you are running right now! Yes, every entrepreneur starts as #Cub, not a #RoaringLion!
“From its early days, Microsoft has managed to reinvent itself, time and time again, whilst also managing to stay #Focused on its core mission and sector. This is something I have been encouraging us to do, as we grow our businesses. [Remember one key thing about #Focus is #CHOOSING what to focus on! Take time to choose well].”
Masiyiwa also said, “Just before our own discussion here, Brad had made an incredible presentation on stage about the history of major technological developments leading up to Artificial Intelligence. That is what I’m commenting on at the beginning of the video. It was a great presentation. [In your studies, be sure to look at AI over the years… Did you know the term “Artificial Intelligence” was first mentioned as a concept back in 1956?!]”
“I’m not going to summarize what Brad and I discussed in this 30-minute conversation. I really urge you to get a cup of coffee and sit down to listen to it.
I would then welcome some COMMENTS from you. Based on your learnings, please summarise them for yourself and others.
It’s a New Year.
#Choose.
#Focus.
#SeekSolutions.
#Innovate.
#NeverGiveUp!”
In his sit down with Microsoft President Masiyiwa reminded a caption of his Meeting at Microsoft’s Campus in Redmond, Washington with some of its inspiring African team from across our continent from June 2019.
