In a initiative aimed at fostering economic independence among young women in Zimbabwe, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, recently celebrated the distribution of goats under the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme. This program, which seeks to empower women at the district level, was highlighted during a distribution event in Marondera, following its provincial launch at Mutoko School in Mashonaland East in September 2024.

Mavetera, who also serves as the National Chairperson of Young Women for Economic Development, expressed her pride in witnessing the positive impact of this initiative. She stated, “This Sunday I had the honour of witnessing the impactful distribution of goats under the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme in Marondera. This initiative empowers young women at the district level, fostering sustainable livelihoods and economic independence for young women in Zimbabwe.”

The scheme has already distributed 3,000 goats nationwide, marking a significant step towards improving the livelihoods of young women across the country. By providing these animals, the program not only enhances food security but also encourages sustainable agricultural practices, allowing women to generate income and become self-sufficient.

As the initiative continues to expand, Mavetera’s commitment to empowering young women remains clear. She emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to reach more beneficiaries, stating, “We are still pushing for more.” This determination highlights a collective vision for a future where young women in Zimbabwe can thrive economically and socially.

The Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme stands as a testament to the transformative power of targeted support programs, demonstrating that with the right resources, young women can lead the way in building sustainable communities.
