A shocking armed robbery in Esigodini, Matabeleland South, has left a family traumatized after two assailants attacked their home, shot a member of the family, and fled with $45,000 in cash. The incident took place around 6:30 PM on Saturday in Habane Township.

According to a police statement, “During the incident, one occupant was shot in the chest and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Bulawayo.” The family is now grappling with the aftermath of the violent encounter.

In a separate incident, police in Avondale, Harare, are seeking information on a group of eight suspects involved in another robbery. The suspects attacked a security guard on duty at a local security company along Lynnington Road, stealing $23,175, five firearms, seven pepper sprays, and seven handcuffs.

These incidents add to a growing trend of violent robberies in the region, as police in Bulawayo continue their investigation into a recent brazen daytime heist. A seven-member gang attacked a cash transit vehicle outside a local bank, making off with a staggering $4 million.

Bulawayo’s acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, shared concerns about public safety, stating, “The suspects are still on the run. The incident occurred in an area where police surveillance cameras were not yet installed. We urge the business community to invest in security measures, including linking cameras with the police for better monitoring to prevent such occurrences.”

Msebele also reminded the public of the importance of vigilance, saying, “We have emergency numbers in place, and we encourage the public to be aware and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
