Following the Zimbabwe Warriors’ impressive performances in the Africa Cup of Nations, the government and Ministry of Sports, led by Olympian Kirsty Coventry, are urged to upgrade the country’s stadiums to meet FIFA and CAF approval requirements.
Currently, Zimbabwe has no approved stadiums, unlike neighboring countries such as South Africa (11), Zambia (2), and Botswana (2).
The 15 basic requirements for approval include:
1. Electronic advertising boards
2. Electronic ticketing system
3. Modern dressing rooms
4. A 5-star hotel within a radius
5. A 5-star hospital within radius
6. Underground watering system (sprinklers)
7. Modern evacuation system
8. Ample and secure parking lot
9. Modern stands and seats (bucket seats system)
10. Pitch maintenance plan
11. Fully functional floodlights for night matches
12. Modern press boxes for journalists
13. Barriers between stands and pitch
14. Fully functional electronic viewing screen
15. Reliable power source
